Planning a Wedding?Planning a Wedding?  Let’s get started.

So, he proposed and you are now newly engaged. Congratulations!!!  You feel elated, blissfully happy and you are floating on cloud nine.  Fantastic!  Relish in the moment.  Enjoy every second because soon it will be time to start planning a wedding.

Planning your wedding will (hopefully) be one of the most amazing times in your life. It can also be very overwhelming and stressful.

Couples are often overwhelmed as to where to start and how to begin to plan their wedding. I often tell my clients to start with a list.  Write down your thoughts. What’s your vision for your wedding?  When and where would you like to get married?  When you close your eyes and envision your wedding day, what do you see?

First things first, hire a wedding planner! This is so important because a wedding planner will not only help you keep calm and stay organized, she will also help you select the right vendors and suppliers, save you time and money, and provide an organized checklist and timeline for the months leading up to the wedding including the wedding day itself.

Consider your budget. How much money would you like to spend on your wedding?  What can you afford?  Will you be paying for the wedding yourself or will you have help?  Will your parents or other family members be contributing toward the budget of your wedding?  This is a delicate conversation you need to have with each other as well as any prospective family member that might be able and willing to assist financially.

Begin working on your guest list. So many decisions will be based on the number of guests that will be attending your wedding.  Do you want a small wedding of 80 guests or a large one of 400+ guests?  The answer to this question will determine the venue you select.

Next up: Venue.  Selecting the right venue is important.  It needs to be able to accommodate the number of guests you have while also satisfying your vision for your wedding.  What kind of venue would you like?  Hotel ballroom?  County Club?  Banquet Hall?  Church?  Synagogue?  There are so many options!

One of the biggest mistakes brides make is that they book the venue and then start working on the guest list.  They then realize that the venue they booked cannot accommodate the number of guests they have.  This is a big source of stress because the bride and groom will either have to change the venue, and risk losing their deposit, or cut down their guest list, which often is not possible.

Once the wedding planner and venue have been booked, and a budget and guest list has been determined, the rest starts to fall into place. Make sure you work closely with your wedding planner to select the other vendors and suppliers such as photographer, videographer, décor, florist, invitations, caterer, live band or DJ…..the list is endless! But worry not!  Your wedding planner will break it down for you and keep you on track!  She will ensure that you will be able to breathe and enjoy the process.

Planning a wedding is not always easy but it can be fun! Working closely with your wedding planner, staying organized and enjoying the process are key to making this time in your life memorable.
